JEAN ARP WAS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE DADA MOVEMENT. A POET AND SCULPTOR, HE WAS AMONG THE FIRST ARTISTS TO EXPLORE ABSTRACT FORMS THROUGH A VISUAL LANGUAGE INSPIRED BY THE SPONTANEITY OF NATURE. ARP DREW “WHAT RESTS, SAILS, MATURES, ASCENDS, FALLS,” ULTIMATELY IN THE PURSUIT OF BALANCE.
IN THE 1950S, INSPIRED BY HIS SEVERAL TRIPS TO GREECE, ARP CREATED A SERIES OF SCULPTURES AT HIS HOME-ATELIER IN MEUDON-CLAMART. ENTITLED PTOLÉMÉE, THESE WORKS IN THE ROUND BROUGHT VOLUME AND VOID TOGETHER IN PERFECT HARMONY. COMPLETED IN 1958, PTOLÉMÉE II REMAINS AN EMBLEMATIC MASTERPIECE THAT HAS BEEN EXHIBITED IN THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS MUSEUMS AROUND THE WORLD.
THE CELINE BIJOUX D’ARTISTES PROJECT IS INTENDED AS A COMPENDIUM OF ARTWORKS BY THE GREATEST ARTISTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE AVANTGARDE. THESE JEWELLERY PIECES, CRAFTED IN SILVER OR VERMEIL, ARE
